Assessment and Reports

SA: Subject Attainment [Term 1, 2, 3 only]

The Subject Attainment grade is an assessment of the student’s academic progress in each subject from the beginning of the course to the current date in which the report is prepared for. The grade incorporates all tests and coursework, plus other formal and informal assessments. It also reflects the teacher’s professional opinion of the overall grade that the student is likely to gain if they now sit for an examination that covers all the material in the course up to that point of the academic year. Tests and coursework from the particular term are included in the Subject Attainment Grade.

Refer to the Subject Attainment for the different divisions (under going review)

Termly Commendation Award Changes 2020

We have converted the criteria for the top Commendation Awards to Grade Point Averages to eliminate any potential anomalies. These changes are summarised below and will be applied in time for the Term 1 reports.

The GPA will be generated from the grades of all three criteria – Attitude to Learning, Course Work and Subject Attainment.

Principal’s List: GPA of 6.60 or higher

Distinction: GPA of 6.40 – 6.59

Effort and Achievement: GPA of 6.20 – 6.39

The Commendation for Effort will remain unchanged and based on the Attitude to Learning and Course Work grades:

Attitude to Learning: Minimum 6 x grades of 6 or 7 out of which at least 4 must be grade 7. There can be NO grades of 3 or below.

Completion of Work: Minimum 6 x grades of 6 or 7 out of which at least 4 must be grade 7. There can be NO grades of 3 or below.

Subject Ach: Subject Achievement [Term 4 End of Year Report only]

The Subject Achievement grade is an overall assessment of the student’s academic work in each for the whole academic year. The grade is made up of two components.

(1) Term 3 Subject Attainment

(2) End of Year Written Examination / Preliminary Examination (IGCSE and IBDP)

Weightage of each component varies according to subjects, depending on the importance of the written examination compared with projects and coursework. As a general guide,  most subjects will carry an EOY Exam – 60% and Term 3 Subject Attainment  - 40%. This Subject Achievement grade is reflected in the student’s transcript upon graduation.
